Steer Quilt

I had a fellow coworker ask if I could make a cow themed quilt for her daughter for Christmas. After some searching we found the perfect steer themed material on Spoonflower and fabric to match at Gina’s Bernina 😍 I think it turned out great!! My friend Julie quilted it and I put binding on in time for Christmas πŸŽ„

Quilting was done with variegated Isacord also from Gina’s Bernina. I LOVE how this thread looks on a quilt!

Thank you for reading and Happy Quilting!

Baseball Memories

A friend recently asked if I could make a t-shirt quilt out of her husband’s old baseball shirts. I thought about it and said sure! I even had time to get it finished by Christmas and I think everyone was happy with the results 😍 Below is her husband with the finished product!

I didn’t realize it but these were from his little league days! This quilt was a lot of fun to make and I’m thankful to have the ladies at Gina’s Bernina to ask for advice! They helped me pick out the back, binding and sashing and all the tips and tricks in between. Mary is actually teaching a class on how to make a t-shirt quilt this spring! Check out their website Here for a full list of classes!

Here are a few more pictures of the process and quilting. I’m so glad he enjoys this quilt and I pray that it is a treasured family heirloom πŸ’—

I just love this backing fabric! I made a pillowcase out of it for my nephew also recently! I see more projects with it in my future ☺️

A Christmas Quilt

I have started a tradition of making my sweet daughter a Christmas quilt each year. For the last two years I made one quilt in 2016 and then actually got it quilted in 2017. This year’s quilt took me a while to get done due to the hustle and bustle of the season, but I finally finished it at 3:00 am this morning 😜

I chose a simple pattern for this Winter Tales layer cake I found online. It’s not a pattern per say but I turned all the squares “on point” and decided to add sashing and the small pink blocks (2 squares of the layer cake).

After weeks of sewing I finally finished it and the look on my daughters face Christmas morning was worth all the late nights and hard work! Here are some more photos of the process πŸ₯°

Barn Quilt to Finish

I’m posting this on my blog in hopes that it will motivate and remind me to finish this quilt! I saw a gorgeous Farm Girl Vintage quilt on Instagram last night and thought “I’ve got to quilt mine!”

Seeing this makes me want to make another Lori Holt quilt! Maybe I’ll try to make the sampler quilt I saw on Instagram….but have to quilt this one first!

Happy thanksgiving everyone! I hope you spend it with family and loved ones πŸ’— And maybe you’ll get some down time to spend wrapped up in a warm quilt!

Thank you for reading and as always Happy Quilting! Don’t forget to start those Christmas projects soon!

Horse Show Memories

I can finally share a project I’ve been working on for a while! I made this for a good friend and former colleague who wanted a way to remember her dear equine friend πŸ’—

She shipped me almost every ribbon they collected throughout a very successful show career so I had a lot to work with!

Here is the finished product!

Years of training, hard work and dedication all proudly represented by a beautiful wall hanging 😍 I hope she loves this as much as I loved working on it!

Thank you for reading and Happy Quilting!

Summer Quilts πŸ’—

I’m back from a hiatus of sorts from blogging and ready to show a few projects I’ve been working on these past few months!

I spent most of the summer making two boy quilts for sweet friends of my sisters and I believe the little boys loved them! They liked Josey’s Montana quilt so much that she decided they needed quilts of their own πŸ’—

The first one is a layer cake quilt made from Moda’s Farm Fun 😍 Perfect for a little farm boy! We were so excited to give him his quilt that I didn’t take proper pictures but he loved it!

The next is a jelly roll race quilt out of Gingiber’s Ahoy! Collection πŸ³πŸ‹ Super cute for any little one!

This one was so much fun to sew and quilt! I hope they are well used and loved for many years to come!

Meet Me in Montana

Several years ago I was tasked with driving to Montana with my twin sister. She applied for and received an internship in the little town of Glasgow and I was to accompany her in our dad’s truck and then fly home. Easy right? Not so much for identical twins who had never spent much time apart. Needless to say I cried almost the entire way out there, I just couldn’t help it. And I still get teary eyed to this day even thinking about that long drive! We saw things we had never seen before, drove for hours at a time, and kept an eye out for deer and pheasants who might take out our dad’s truck on the interstate πŸ˜‚ Once we got to Glasgow I saw where Josey would be working for the summer, met a few of her soon to be coworkers, and spent the night there before flying out the next morning. We woke up at the crack of dawn and it was snowing…..in May….and I couldn’t believe my sister wanted to stay here?? Our parents didn’t raise quitters so of course she stayed, and I cried all the way to Wolf Point, then to Billings and then to Denver. Doug picked me up in Nashville, we had dinner with a good friend and then I cried all the way home 😒 But Josey had an awesome summer in Montana and I enjoyed her pictures via Facebook and text messages ☺️

Fast forward 9 years later and Josey mentions that she loves this new Moda fabric by Anne Brady called Big Sky. I found a jelly roll of it and waited a while to see what I might create. My sweet daughter found it and promptly dismantled the entire thing so I said let’s make JoJo’s quilt! K was all about that so she helped me arrange the strips to make a Jelly Roll Race quilt. You can find the Missouri Star Quilt Company tutorial Here and thank me later for sharing it! This is such a fun quilt from start to finish. You sew for what seems like forever but really it’s only about 45 minutes and voila you have a quilt top! Josey picked out borders for hers from Mountain Creek Quilt Shop and a back that were from the Big Sky Collection.

Here is the finished product!

I Quilted it myself on my Bernina QE with straight lines, and K even helped!

Hopefully this quilt brings back great memories in Montana for you Josey! K enjoyed helping me make it and I hope you enjoy it too 😘

Recent Projects!

Hi everyone! Summer is in full swing and I have been busy finishing some cute projects I’d like to share!

Baby burp cloths are always a popular shower gift and are so much better than what you can buy in stores. These are some I made for a friend recently 😍

I can add names to burp cloths for $3 extra each or $7 per three burp cloths. Reminder they are $5 each or 3 for $12 on my ETSY Shop The Quilted Lamb Studio .

I add new prints when I find them but if you have a specific need don’t hesitate to message me!

These are my recent wholecloth quilts!

The whales are for a family member who needed a quick baby gift and the farm quilt sold already on my ETSY Shop but I can always replicate these!

These are two large quilts I’m working on finishing up for a family member to give as gifts also! I hope her recipients love them!

I’ve been busy but I love sewing and quilting, and my little girl loves it too! It’s something we do together and I can’t wait to show her the ins and outs of this useful and fun skill 😍

Show Ring Memories

Last year a good friend of mine asked if I could help him out with a Father’s Day present for his dad (Doc, also a very good friend of mine and like a second dad to me). Of course I said yes, but I would be lying if I said I wasn’t a bit nervous. He found a big box of old ribbons his dad had won while they were cleaning out his grandpas house after he passed away. He wanted a wall hanging of some sort and told me to just go with it. 😳 I of course started looking for ideas and found several promising examples on Pinterest. Did they come with tutorials?? Of course not….you had to pay this person to make them. Which is fine! Don’t get me wrong, but I wanted to learn myself.

So I took out a few of the ribbons and steamed them with care, using a washcloth in between the ribbon and my iron. If you don’t do this you will burn the ribbon! Ask me how I know 😬 I then tried various stitches on my sewing machine (Bernina come with tons of stitches thank goodness!) and figured out that a zig zag stitch worked great (shorter stitch length and a bit wider than normal). Once I decided all of these particulars I laid out the ribbons I wanted to include and set about arranging them. Doc was involved in many projects so I tried to include hogs and cattle and various shows and awards in the ribbons I chose.

I then started to carefully sew them together, overlapping the edges just slightly and trying to keep them straight. Then I trimmed each end (much like you would when squatting up a quilt) and started the next row.

After much deliberation, arranging and careful sewing I finally finished it and sent it to my friend for approval, he loved it and started making a hanger for it once I sent measurements.

Below is the finished product and I couldn’t be happier with how it turned out! I’m so thankful I could bring joy to a dear friend who might have forgotten that his dad saved all these ribbons over the years. This is just a small sampling of what was saved but its representative of what Doc participated in as a 4H member and young stockman.

These may seem like wrinkled old ribbons to most folks. But to my friend they are years and years of hard work, feeding cattle & hogs, grooming animals and traveling to shows with his family. Hopefully this piece will bring back those memories and good times can be relived. I’m glad to have had a hand in this for this wonderful family 😍

Thank you for reading and as always Happy quilting! Enjoy this precious gift Doc that your son came up with!
